An Interview With Jemma Lewis

IF YOU HAD TO DESCRIBE CABBAGES & ROSES IN A SENTENCE WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Dreamy and Ethereal!

FIRST OF ALL, CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT WHAT YOU DO?

I am a full time professional paper marbler. I work from a log cabin at the bottom of my garden with my husband Craig. Marbled papers are traditionally found on the insides of antiquarian books, but we also supply many designers and artists with our papers and we send them all over the World. We add drops of Gouache paint on to a liquid made from Carragheen Moss (an Irish Seaweed),  create a pattern then lay down a sheet of specially treated paper than picks up the pattern.

Even after a light rinse the paint stays on the sheet of paper. This Christmas we marbled some baubles using the same techniques but had a 3D object rather than our normal sheet of paper! We offer a collection of our one-of-a-kind marbled baubles to the Tinct pop-up shop.
